Complete Workflow

From recording synchronized videos on your iPhones to editing and exporting on your Mac—here's the complete AngleDrift workflow.

Note: This workflow requires an AngleDrift subscription. The free version only includes the Drifter role (recording on secondary devices).

Phase 1: iPhone Setup & Recording

1

Install AngleDrift on Your iPhones

Download and install the AngleDrift iOS app from the App Store on each iPhone you plan to use (2-4 devices recommended).

Tip: Use iPhone 11 or newer for best results. All devices should be running iOS 26.1 or later.

2

Launch the App on Each iPhone

Open AngleDrift on all iPhones. Make sure WiFi and Bluetooth are enabled on all devices. iPhones do not need to be on a WiFi network but WiFi must be on because the app uses peer to peer WiFi automatically...no sign in required.

3

Select Roles: Director and Drifters

On one iPhone: Select "Director" role. This device will coordinate the recording.

On all other iPhones: Select "Drifter" role. These devices will follow the Director's commands.

Note: Only one Director is allowed per session. All other devices must be Drifters.

4

Director Admits Drifters

On the Director device, you'll see a list of available Drifters. Tap each Drifter to admit them to the session. Once admitted, all devices are connected and synchronized.

5

Set Recording Duration

On the Director device, set the recording duration (e.g., 5 seconds, 10 seconds, or custom). All Drifters will automatically use this duration.

6

Prepare Cameras

To see the video of each drifter, tap the camera icon next to each Drifter in Connected Drifters.

Tap "Prepare All Cameras" on the Director. This initializes the cameras on all devices so you can verify framing and positioning.

Tip: Each device can record using either the front-facing or rear-facing camera. Select your preferred camera before preparing.

7

Record

When ready, tap the red record button on the Director. A countdown appears on all devices, then all cameras record simultaneously for the specified duration.

All videos are frame-accurate synchronized (±33ms at 30fps) automatically—no manual syncing required.

8

Export Session as ZIP

After recording, tap the session in the list. Tap "Export Session" to create a ZIP file containing:

  • All synchronized video files from each camera
  • Session metadata
  • IMU data (accelerometer, gyroscope)
9

Transfer ZIP to Mac

Use AirDrop, iCloud Drive, or a USB cable to transfer the session ZIP file from your iPhone to your Mac.

Recommended: Create a dedicated folder on your Mac (e.g., ~/Movies/AngleDrift Sessions) to store all session ZIPs.

Phase 2: Mac Editing & Export

10

Open AngleDrift-Producer on Mac

Launch the AngleDrift-Producer macOS app. This is where you'll import, edit, and export your multi-angle videos.

11

Set Import Folder

In Producer, go to Settings and set the "Import Folder" to the folder where you saved your session ZIP files (e.g., ~/Movies/AngleDrift Sessions).

Producer will automatically scan this folder and import all sessions.

12

Import and Unzip Session

Producer automatically unzips the session and extracts all data.

13

Review Synchronized Videos

Click on the session to open it. You'll see all camera angles listed with their sync status. Use the built-in player to preview each angle or play them side-by-side.

14

Fine-Tune Sync (Optional)

If needed, use the Sync Fine-Tune section to manually adjust frame offsets for any camera.

15

Create Multi-Angle Composition

Go to the Drift It tab. Tap a composition layout button & auto create:

  • Angle Stack All angles visible at once
  • Picture-in-Picture (PIP): Director main angle with smaller, drifter overlays
  • Grid: Equal sized tiles
  • Focus View: Main video plus thumbnails
  • Angle Flow: Sequential time slices
16

Share Final Video

When satisfied with your layout, tap the Show button to see the finished mp4 video in the Finder.

Producer renders the final multi-angle video as a single MP4 file, ready to share or import into your existing video editing workflow for further refinement (iMovie, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, etc.).
